Ingredients: 2 Cups Scalded Milk 3 Tablespoons Butter 2 Tablespoons Sugar 2 Teaspoons Salt 1 package dry yeast 1/4 Cup lukewarm water Approximately 5-6 Cups Unbleached Flour Melted Butter 1 Beaten Egg in 2 Tablespoons of milk Poppy or Sesame seeds Put scalded milk in bowl. Add the butter, sugar and salt and mix. Cool to lukewarm. In small bowl, dissolve the yeast in 1/4 cup lukewarm water. and mix. Add to the above larger bowl. and mix. Add 3 cupls of flour and beat well. Cover and let rise until light (about 1-2 hours) Add enough more flour to make a stiff dough (not sticky) Put into a greased bowl, and grease the top and let rise until doubled. Turn out onto a floured bread board and knead. Shape into rolls (braided, twisted, cloverleaf, buns, etc) Placed on a greased cookie sheet and brush the tops with melted butter..let rise for about another hour. Brush with beaten egg, which has been diluted with egg...Sprinkle with seeds on top..Bake at 425 degress for about 15 minutes. Makes about 1-1/2 dozen rolls. Bread Making Hint To keep bread dough from
sticking to your
hands, lightly grease your hands with oil or butter.
Also, grease the bowl with oil before you
place the dough in it to rise. |
