Outdoor Entertaining: A Year-Round Experience (NewsUSA) - Whether it's tailgating before the next big game, celebrating a special birthday or simply enjoying time with family and friends, outside parties offer a lot of fun and convenience. Hosting an outdoor party eliminates the worry about messy spills and the need for expensive decorations, since nature can be the backdrop. And no matter the occasion or time of year, grilled foods, good company and outside entertaining are always in season. Following are a few tips for entertaining any time of year: * Evenings can get a little chilly, and it is important that guests stay comfortable. Visit a local home shopping center and purchase an outdoor patio heater or simply rent one for the night. * Light up the entertaining area with a string of lights, decorative votive candles or lanterns. This will make it easier for everyone to see, while also creating a festive atmosphere. * Simplify post-party cleanup by strategically placing garbage cans in the entertaining area so guests can easily dispose of garbage. * Instead of spending hours in the kitchen, prepare simple, easy-to-make finger foods, such as fruit kebabs or this recipe for Grilled Chicken Sandwiches with Pesto Mayo, which can be cut into quarters and made into mini sandwiches - a fun addition to any party
Make a Sandwich Worth Sharing
(Family Features) - In school cafeterias all over the country, a long-standing lunch ritual takes place every day - kids swapping sandwiches. What if you could make a sandwich kids of all ages would actually want to eat? And what if you could share a sandwich that would help end childhood hunger in America? Celebrity chef Bobby Flay and actress/mom Lori Loughlin have teamed up with Hellmann's® to help re-launch a virtual version of the time-honored sandwich swap. "We are excited to be a part of Hellmann's Sandwich Swap 'n' Share program, as it's a fun Facebook application that also helps a worthy cause," says Flay. "When you visit Hellmann's page on Facebook, you'll have the opportunity to create a sandwich on an application and, for every sandwich built, Hellmann's will make a donation to Share Our Strength, an organization committed to ending childhood hunger in America. And, when you share a sandwich with a friend, an additional donation will be made, which will go toward the maximum $75,000 overall donation. To share a virtual sandwich and join the fight to end childhood hunger, visit Facebook.com/Hellmanns. Families Can Reconnect Through Cooking
(Family Features) - In an increasingly advanced technological world, family members may spend more time looking at a screen than they do at each other. To help bridge that gap and inspire families to enjoy more quality time together, Unilever Foods recently introduced The Family Dish...A Recipe for Fun, a new program encouraging moms to get their families in the kitchen cooking together. Lauren Dellabella and Anna Marie Cesario, co-managers of the Unilever Consumer Test Kitchens, agree that cooking is a great creative outlet, and the simple acts of mixing and measuring together can lead to "amazing conversations and memories that last a lifetime." Among the suggestions from Lauren and Anna Marie, both moms themselves, is using computers or smart phones to access recipes and other cooking-related information. "This is your chance to simply cook, connect and spend quality time together," advises Ms. Dellabella. To provide families with the inspiration they need to take the first step, The Family Dish website features budget-friendly and palate-pleasing recipes made with popular pantry staples; the professional knowledge and personal experience of Unilever Consumer Kitchens' experts; and the hands on stories and videos from trusted mom bloggers.
