Recipe for Monkey Bread


Ingredients:

2-1/2 cups sugar
4 teaspoons cinnamon
3/4 cup melted butter
(4) 7 ounce cans refrigerated biscuits

Heat the oven to 375 degrees. Greases a 12 cup fluted tube pan.  Mix sugar and cinnamon in a 1 gallon plastic bag.  Work with 1 can of biscuits at a time.  Remove the biscuits, and cut each biscuit into 4 equal pieces.  Coat with melted butter and then add to the bag with sugar mixture.  Close bag and shake to coat.  Gently press the pieces into the prepared pan.  Repeat this procedure with the other 3 cans of biscuits..Bake at 45-50 minutes, until browned.  Remove from the oven and turn out onto serving plate while still hot. This bread is best eaten while still warm, pulling apart the pieces with your fingers.  Hence, the term Monkey Bread!  Makes 16 servings.     Gotta Love Monkey Bread!

Bread Making Hint:   To keep bread dough from sticking to your hands, lightly grease  your hands  with oil or butter.  Also, grease the bowl with oil  before you place the dough in it to rise.

"Playing with color is an easy way to add that 'wow factor' to baking," says Tack. "In fact, sometimes all it takes to add pizzazz is just a little imagination and a few drops of food color."

  • Make dessert the centerpiece "arrangement" with a multi-layered cupcake tower. With a tiered serving platter (available at home decorating stores) assemble cupcakes - alternating colors and shapes between layers.
  • For a personalized bridal shower, monogram cupcakes in the bride's wedding colors. Or, give her "something blue" by throwing her a blue-themed shower, complete with blue frosted cupcakes topped with white rock candy to look like diamonds.
  • Bake cupcakes and cookies, and leave the decorating for the kids. Fill each section of empty plastic ice trays with different colors of sugar, sprinkles, shredded coconut, candy and nonpareils.
