Very Old Pepper Haste Recipe Early 1900's Recipe Ingredients: 1 large cabbage 6 onions 9 green peppers 9 red peppers 1/2 cup salt 1/2 cup white mustard seed 1 tablespoon celery seed 2 pounds cane sugar white wine vinegar Chop the cabbage, onions and pepper fine. Put in a large bowl, and stir in the salt. Let stand overnight. In the morning, drain liquid and then add the spices and sugar and cover with vinegar. Put in large cooking pot and set on stove until the sugar has all melted, but do not boil. Seal by using your favorite canning method and keep in cool place.
