Steamed Cornbread Recipe


Recipe for Steamed Corn Bread

Ingredients:

2 cups unbleached flour
2 cups corn meal
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 cup molasses
2 cups sour milk
<> In a large bowl, sift together the flour corn meal and salt.  In small bowl,
add a little bit of the molasses and dissolve the baking soda in it. Mix well.
Add this small mixture into a bowl of the remaining molasses and sour milk and mix well. Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture, beating well with wooden spoon and place in pan.  Steam for 2-3 hours, depending on oven type.  This is a recipe from The Magic Cookbook by Magic Soda, early 1900's.
