Thanksgiving and Christmas Recipes

Have you ever been to a Cranberry Bog and picked cranberries by hand with an old fashioned scoop?

If you get a chance, try it!  It is fun, but if you have a bad back or bad knees, have someone else do the work for you!  In most areas where cranberries are grown, local  elementary schools get an invitation in the fall from a Bog Owner to come and watch the operation and try picking their own cranberries!  They usually give you a pint or quart bag, depending on the generosity of the owner!

Do you remember the Cranberry Scare  many many years back?  There was an opinion that the cranberries that year were cancer causing because of the pesticides used..  The grocers pulled the cans off the shelves. For many families, it was the first time they did not have cranberry sauce at Thanksgiving!  I remember it well!
